Not everyone wants to hand over their credit card details to sign up to OnlyFans accounts, and there are various reasons for that. But your options could be limited, based on the payment methods that OnlyFans will accept.

You might've seen that you can buy OnlyFans gift cards, and so you'd have a legitimate question about whether they were real and could be trusted. Maybe you just have no clue what the point of them is, either.

Let's take a look at the slightly weird world of OnlyFans gift cards, how to get them to work as a payment method, and how to make sure you're avoiding scams or other issues when using a gift card on OnlyFans.

The payment methods OnlyFans accepts

Straight up, OnlyFans will tell you it doesn't accept gift card payments on the site. In fact there are several surprising things on the list – it doesn't accept PayPal payments either, and it also lists prepaid cards as another payment option that won't work.

Officially, OnlyFans will accept payments via a Visa card, MasterCard, Discover, Maestro and Debit cards, and ‘some' prepaid Visa cards.

So then, why are we telling you about an OnlyFans gift card if they aren't accepted?

The good news is that they aren't complete scams, but they also aren't official either. Essentially you're paying for a prepaid card that's designed to work with OnlyFans. Again, not all prepaid cards work with the site, but if you buy your OnlyFans gift cards from a trusted seller with positive reviews then you should be able to use them to sign up to accounts and access exclusive content from your favorite creators.

Whether you're someone interested in using a gift card on OnlyFans for yourself, or you're a content creator who wants to understand the different options your fans have (and what you need to do to protect yourself), it's good to know that gift cards are real and will work, but they aren't an officially-recognized payment method and so there can be issues.

Benefits of using an OnlyFans gift card

There are several reasons why someone might prefer to use a gift card or other prepaid cards to pay for OnlyFans, rather than using their credit card.

Avoid OnlyFans appearing on your bank account

One of the main reasons that people look to use a gift card or any kind of prepaid Visa card when they're making online purchases on OnlyFans is to hide it from their bank account.

OnlyFans does appear on your bank statement – it's not something you can hide if you're paying for it with your debit or credit card information. It's going to show up.

For a lot of people, that's a problem. Either you might not want your partner to know that you're spending shared money to pay to unlock exclusive content from creators, or it could be that you're trying to protect your history for any jobs you want to apply for, where your monthly subscription habits could be scrutinized as part of a credit check.

If you're able to use a third-party payment provider, such as a gift card or another type of prepaid debit card, then you get around this issue. The site where you buy the card will show up on your statements, but then you can use the alternative payment method to top up your OnlyFans wallet and it won't ever appear on your main account statement.

Of course, you might still have to explain why you're buying several prepaid cards or gift cards to your partner, potential employer or to your mortgage provider. However, you don't have to tell them it's to access OnlyFans, you can come up with something else.

Not that we're advocating you being sneaky with your partner about paying OnlyFans creators – but it's an option.

Minimise risk of data theft

Another big reason people like to use a prepaid gift card or debit card rather than their primary card they use for banking is to minimize any risk of fraud or data theft.

OnlyFans is generally a secure website. It passes data through encryption so that there's no way any creators you follow can see your payment details, and so as long as you're careful you shouldn't need to worry about stolen cards when using the popular online platform directly.

Still, many people prefer to be extra careful, and so would rather risk using something that isn't listed as an accepted payment method such as PayPal or gift cards instead of handing over the details for their debit or credit card.

Arguably, this reason isn't legitimate. Buying gift cards from a legitimate website has the same level of security as paying OnlyFans directly.

Other reasons for paying for Only Fans indirectly are valid, but you can discount this one. If you're happy paying for a gift card, you should trust paying OnlyFans directly instead.

Promotional option for content creators

Here's an interesting idea for OnlyFans creators – you could consider using OnlyFans gift cards as a promotional tool, to help you attract new fans.

If you were comfortable, you could pay for gift cards and then hand them out to OnlyFans users, asking them to use them to cover your subscription fee.

There are a couple of reasons why you might want to do this:

1) Innovative marketing

Everyone on OnlyFans offers free trials. They're really common, which means their message becomes a little less exciting. Offering someone a free trial to your subscription account for a month is good, but fans might be getting a few different offers and they might not really care enough.

Offering someone a gift card is different, though. It's not common, and so it's more likely to pique the interest of your potential fans. They might like the sound of a free gift card that they can use to pay for your OnlyFans subscription, especially if you get the idea that they're someone who is worried about paying with their credit card.

You can have fun with it – maybe you'll offer gift cards on social media as a way of drumming up more interest, and you don't have to explicitly say that they're to pay for OnlyFans content. That might help you run a contest on a site which would normally ban any mention of sites like OnlyFans.

Just try to be creative on how you word it, as outside the world of OnlyFans there are plenty of websites that claim to offer free gift cards for different activities. If you've ever played a mobile game on your phone, you've probably seen the adverts…

You still need to cut through the noise and make sure your offer sounds legit, otherwise you'll just get ignored.

2) Earn money long-term from subscriptions

Here's where offering gift cards or other prepaid card offers for your fans could really help you earn big.

The problem with free trials on OnlyFans is that they end automatically. You give your fans a free trial, and then once that trial ends, they automatically stop being a subscriber.

However, to use gift cards, OnlyFans users still need to have registered a credit or debit card on the website. They need at least a secondary card on there in order to accept OnlyFans cards and put them onto their account.

Now, if you offer someone prepaid OnlyFans e-gift cards that they then use, but then they have insufficient funds in their wallet to pay when the subscription status is due to renew, OnlyFans will automatically charge their other debit or credit card for the missing funds.

So we admit that this is a bit sneaky, but as long as you don't like it, it's not like you're cheating someone. It's their responsibility to track their subscriptions.

But you can be clever in how you manage it. Say you set your subscription fee to $10 a month, and you offer up a $15 gift card to someone.

You've paid $15 out of your own money for the gift card, and in the first month, the user will use $10 of their gift card to pay you. You'll get $8 of that back because OnlyFans will take the 20% cut.

But then if the user doesn't cancel their subscription, they'll be charged the remaining $5 of the virtual credit card balance, and then the other $5 on their main credit card. And you'll get another $8 after OnlyFans processes their fees.

Not only that, but they'll remain subscribed, so if they don't monitor their statements or if you've managed to convince them that you're really good value, then they'll automatically renew next month too. It's not like a free trial where you've got more work on your hands to convince them to activate their subscription again, but instead, they need to opt out if they want to.

For that reason, there's good potential to offering up prepaid cards as gift cards to your fans… but there are some risks involved too.

Beware the risk!

If you want to try these marketing methods, you have to accept that there is quite a lot of risk involved. Because in theory, you could send someone an OnlyFans gift card, and they could then use it on any creator – you can't tie prepaid Visa cards to you and your account.

So, you might offer someone a gift card, and then spend the money, but ultimately the fan might just forget to use it on you, or they might be cheeky and use it to pay for a subscription to another creator instead. You're out of luck because OnlyFans doesn't even want people using gift cards and so is hardly going to help you.

There's no way of getting around this risk, so we would highly advise caution on using them for marketing methods unless you absolutely know that a fan is going to use it to sign up with you. And even then, think about whether someone's scamming you.

NEVER let a fan convince you to buy them a gift card. Only ever do it of your own free will and for someone, you are sure is going to spend it on you, or make peace with the fact that you might lose the money.

If you have spare funds to use for marketing and don't mind if it does end up being spent on someone else, then it's OK to give it a shot.

Risks of OnlyFans gift card payments

There are some risks that anyone needs to be aware of with OnlyFans gift cards. Never pay for them without understanding these.

OnlyFans policies

As we've described, officially OnlyFans doesn't accept payments via gift card and it only accepts some types of prepaid card. That's how sites get around it – the gift cards are just prepaid cards marketed as gift cards.

OnlyFans could easily change which cards it accepts, though. It's unlikely as it's a lot of work, but you never know. And OnlyFans won't help you if you've paid for a prepaid Visa card that isn't working, because they'll just point you towards their T&Cs.

Fraud

There's a chance that you could end up buying fake gift cards if you use a site that doesn't have a good reputation. Only ever buy your OnlyFans gift cards from websites that have a lot of independent reviews with positive feedback.

Don't trust the reviews they post themselves, but use sites like Trustpilot, which require reviews to be verified so that you know they're genuine.

Unable to chargeback

One of the major benefits of using a credit card to pay for things online, including paying for OnlyFans, is the option to chargeback if you don't get what you're paying for.

Most banks will let you instigate a chargeback if you pay for a product or service that you don't receive. So if you pay for a content creator to offer you a subscription because they've claimed they'll give you one thing, but then they don't, you could start a chargeback claim and your card issuer would look to reclaim the funds from OnlyFans for you, should OnlyFans refuse the refund.

Using a gift card, you don't have this protection. So that's a risk you'd need to run. If you used a gift card and subscribed to someone, and they clearly weren't offering up the content they promised, you could still ask for a refund from OnlyFans. If it was clear mis-selling, they might refund you to your OnlyFans wallet.

As a creator, it's always important to provide what you claim to when someone subscribes. Don't lie and say you offer nude content if you don't, as regardless of the payment method used by your subscribers, one way or another you'll likely lose the money.

Avoiding gift card scams

A quick note on gift card scams, since they're pretty popular. If you're someone who uses OnlyFans (either as a content creator or as a user) you're probably pretty au fait with how the internet works, and the fact that scammers exist.

Still, it's important to be absolutely clear – never get involved with a gift card or any other kind of virtual prepaid card at the direction of someone else. If an OnlyFans creator tells you that you SHOULD buy a gift card instead of making a direct deposit or payment to the OnlyFans site, or if a user tells you that they'll only subscribe to you if you buy a gift card, report them!

There are all kinds of gift card scams that people could be running, especially if they ask you to buy more than one card at a time.

Don't be afraid to use gift cards for OnlyFans transactions if it's something you're doing for your own benefit, but if anyone tells you that they offer some kind of advanced security feature or a cheaper deal, it's best to be sceptical.

And absolutely, never buy any gift cards or prepaid Visa card from a website you've never seen before and can't trust. You might be giving up your credit card information and putting yourself at risk of card not present fraud, where someone uses your data to gain access to your bank account.

As long as you are using gift cards for OnlyFans without pressure, and it's a decision you've made, then it should be a safe alternative to using your credit card. Just be wary of the risk.

Final word

Whether you're an OnlyFans content creator who wants to offer the best service to their subscribers, or you're a security-conscious user who is careful with using their credit card online, it's good to understand what options are available for OnlyFans gift cards and whether they really are legit.

And they are – provided you don't mind using an ‘unofficial' payment method and that you buy them from a trusted website where you know you aren't getting scammed.

Just make sure you're always careful, as there are always scammers looking for new ways to take advantage of creators and users. If you're a creator who likes the idea of using gift cards as a marketing ploy, only do it if you're happy to lose the funds completely. Don't offer big sums.
